July Breed of the Month - AZAWAKH

Azawakh

The breed I chose to showcase this month is the Azawakh form the Sahara Desert. They are for an experienced pet owner and have many great qualities. Their weight ranges from 33 pounds to 55 pounds.

They are overall a friendly breed that would be great for a family. They get along well with other dogs, but be careful with smaller animals as their prey drive is very large. They also tend to shy away from strangers.

Azawakh's are intelligent and easy to train. They also do not use their voice very often - you won't have to worry about a howler. However, for best behavior they need a moderate amount of exercise. They need a large yard or a running partner to go with daily. Giving them adequate exercise will make training much easier. As long as they are out running, they will be couch surfers when indoors. This quality also makes them a good apartment dog if yards are not in your area.

This breed is great for warm weather, but is sensitive to the cold. Make sure you dress them in sweaters and boots if they are in cold weather. There is little grooming needs, but they do shed. Good news is you won't have to worry about cleaning up drool :)

Overall, I think this breed is good for an experienced, active owner. Please respond with your questions regarding this breed...I will be more than happy to discuss :)
